No reason to suggest? Do you think things through? What kind of private roads and to where? There wouldn't even be 2 lane asphalt roads to anywhere if they were all private. There are TONS of private roads still in america, know where they go? From where the guy who puts them in wants, to where he wants it to end. Dirt roads of 1.5 lanes, where one guy has to stop so another guy can pass. Try building a road for 50,000+lbs. of semi-truck without public funds to drive over and over, delivering, o, everything we consume, and see how long it lasts without tax money for upkeep (check out the russian highways for a good example of an underfunded highway system).
But sure, let's privatize everything and see how far that puts america back in time. We'll all race for the bottom, letting say a bad road go just another month of being unusable or closed so a private company can pay last month's bills or squeeze another penny out of their maintence division. Have you ever lived in a place where a service like garbage is state run, and then another place where it's private? Drastically different setup, much higher costs and total lack of commitment to citizens/customers by private companies.
