Only downside I have ever heard of is an increased percentage of Alzheimers. Then again that was in some crappy science magazine with over decades of research soooo probably not true. WEEED NOWWWW

The better solution would be for each state to individually legalize cannabis. The reason is that because states get financial aid from the federal government, they are more susceptible to falling in line as the federal government hangs the financial aid over their heads. Either way, being the mathematician that I supposedly am, legalizing it will make only a small dent. As for hemp, totes different story. Legalize and use the ever living **** out of hemp.

You're making the faulty assumption that with tax increases the government will keep spending the same amount. Unfortunately I doubt that would happen as congress has historically proven otherwise. In addition, a minor tax increase such as 2% in all likelihood won't cover the interest payments on a trillion dollar debt.

The mary jane idea is fine, though that in itself won't solve the debt problems. Yes it will create jobs and a sales tax will bring in more money, but it's not going to be something that every single person uses. Therefore the increased revenues to the government would likely be minimal in relation to the debt.

I'm all for lower taxes, but in our current mess it's likely going to take huge spending cuts in addition to moderate tax increases/"loophole" cutting to get down this deficit.
