I feel like that's the most contested position in any queue really. Why? You're right in the center of the map and if you're as close minded as majority of the players you'll feel like everyone is watching you in the game. You're kind of expected to do more than top/have a little more responsibility. What gives? Why is everyone in a rush to embarrass themselves?

You can choose to snowball top or bot from mid. very versatile in your choices.

I guess it's because not like bot lane, mid doesn't need big communication except with your jungler.Plus, you can help both top or bot from mid easily. That's my opinion tho.

I actually see top called more often in my games.

Leaving things be in Draft, I get mid more often (read, occasionally) than top (read, never).

because thats where all the jackasses go and they just let me roam nillywilly on katarina or diana and I just snowball my teamates <3 easiest elo ever earned.

For me, personally, it's because Brand and Xerath are pretty worthless everywhere else.
