I'm relatively new to LoL and I've been putting a lot more thought into builds than I have been before. I usually play as Soraka or Sona because I'm definitely a support player.

I've been trying out some different champions to mix things up, and I came across Kayle. Being the support player I am, I was mostly interested in her W. The heal isn't all that great, but I'm more interested in the utility of the movement speed increase. If I combo that with a boot that has the Captain enchant, does that create a reasonable movement speed increase for a champion to get out of a sticky situation quickly? I'm assuming Berserkers Greaves are the right boot for Kayle? Are enchants even really worth it?

Tl;Dr- Divine Blessing + Boots w/ Captain Enchant = Escape?

Kayle Support isnt that great because your only way of truly harassing is your E which can then push the lane. If you like the idea of a speed boost and want a pokey support try Lulu. Lulu is amazingly fun to play, you'd probably enjoy it.

Lulu is actually one of the next champions I'm getting!

But I'm just theory hashing right now. If I have an ally in danger, could I W them and with the combination of that and the Captain Enchant on boots, would that have a distinct effect on their retreat? I mean if I could I guess I'd Q their pursuer to widen the gap as well.

I mean if she and a partner are retreating and her partner is slower than she is, if she gets ahead of them could the Enchant on boots help them both get out alive? Or is her W good enough on it's own in this situation?

I don't usually play Kayle, I guess I'm just trying to understand game concepts and how builds and abilities can work together in sort of weird ways...Yeah.

Captain enchantment only works if they're running to you, not away from you. So you'd have to stay ahead of them in a retreat. However, if the speed boost on W is not adequate to save them, Captain probably won't either. Not that Captain is bad for supports at all, but chances are you'd want Homeguard or Alacrity most of the time.

As for Kayle's supporting...it's not that good. Kayle is more a carry with some support utility than she is a pure support. Her heal and ult are not enough to really justify doing it, especially given her Q and E are damage steroids that you won't be able to use properly. But, if you must do it, you'll typically want Ionian boots. Berserker greaves would be the option for a normal Kayle, yes. But as a support, that attack speed is going to be wasted because you don't have the budget to afford actual damage items, since it's going to support stuff.

That's not to say you can't do it, because you can, and there are worse options. But at the same time, there are much better options out there as well. A good support champ is helpful to their team even with no items at all. Kayle is, but only to a point.

I've seen Kayle on occasion in kill lanes and once they hit level 6, they can tower dive you with impunity if they time it right (works best when support/ADC are talking on Skype or similar). Usually it takes more than a small movespeed buff to get people out of trouble, though. I suppose it could happen, but someone would probably try to CC them or whatever.

Kayle is something of an unusual choice. Not a bad one, but a champ more often seen top lane than support. If you're worried about not being able to save your carry, try Lulu or Janna. Both of them have a lot of ways to save someone.

Slowing is more reliable than speeding up. Kayle has a skill that slows...and there's also Randuin's Omen.

I think all the boot upgrades besides Alacrity are pretty useless.
