So tonight I had to shave off my considerably sized beard, well, I took some scissors to it first obviously, because it's thick as #@!*$&%.

Anyway, I have a job interview tomorrow for a pretty huge gig, I'm hoping it goes well and obviously, when you're a new guy to the place, you don't show up with a big ass beard, maybe if I land the position, I'll let the beard grow and that'll be that.

With that said, I have many safety razors and electric razors here at my disposal, but it's always a huge hassle to shave off a full, thick beard and I've had enough.

I've decided to do some research on/invest in a straight razor, my grandfather used(uses) one and told me that there is nothing (in terms of shaving obv) that compares to a proper blade in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.

So here's my question to you chums;
Do you (need to) shave? (Some people, notably REALLY white people, don't grow beards)
Have you ever used a straight razor?
Have you ever gone to a barber that uses a straight razor?
???
Thoughts?

Before interviews or important events I go to a barber and get a straight razor shave. I can't do it on my own without cutting my face up.

It is the closest shave by a large margin.

I use a straight razor. It's definitely got a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you get a much closer shave, and it actually nicks you up a lot less than one of those safety razors. I've never used a quality electric, so I can't vouch for the shave they give, but I doubt it would be as nice as a straight razor's. After using one of those little 4 blade disposable things, you can always feel a bit of scruff even immediately afterwards. With a straight razor you can get so close that your face feels completely smooth.

It takes a little longer unless you are really good with it, but the feeling of the warm blade is actually quite enjoyable. I don't know how available they'd be down where you are, but in the US nobody really makes straight razors anymore, so you pretty much have to pick up a vintage one at like an antique shop. So long as there are no nicks in the blade, it should be decent enough. You'll need to pick up a strop and a nice shaving brush too.

You can definitely buy straight razors new at most barber shops. I think you need to sharpen them? I'm not sure.

I got mine professionally sharpened when I purchased it. To keep it sharp you usually just need to use this leather strip called a strop. I wouldn't trust myself to really sharpen it with a stone, as you can damage the blade if you don't know what you're doing.

I was already heavily leaning towards it, but your input has sealed the deal.

I'm definitely investing in a straight razor, ftw.

Good to hear it. The aesthetic value of the razor itself is also much higher than a standard safety razor's.

So what kind of gig you got, some dentist position in a nice office or something?

Nothing is certain yet, but I am going in for an interview with a syndicate recruiter for a govt. position.

If it goes well, I am looking at a nice high level position in a hospital or health center.

I can sit on that job for a few years before I invest in something bigger.

For the past 6 months I've been doing side work for my (rich) friends and acquaintances, I don't have my own office, so I would do work in other people's office, or assist acquaintances with big commissions, that kind of thing. It's incredibly unstable and thus, I want a more secure position with the govt.

I prefer the term, Taco Master, you gaywad.

"Taco Warlord" sounds lame, like we're chucking tacos at each other over a ravine.

Actually that sounds pretty awesome...
