I didn't actually mean that they would decide, and I am against the council even forming. I just meant that, if it did form, I don't think they would really be able to make any suggestions for OCs, since they wouldn't really be able to know the character.

Obviously I was oversimplifying things in my explanation, making it difficult to understand. I also am probably not making much sense since I'm tired and its past 3am.
Well if you put it that way, then perhaps all this dispute is unneeded.

It is not the council's job to determine what someone can or cannot do, whether it is a champion, OC, or otherwise.

In the Tryndamere x Sejuani argument, the council is NOT there to decide "these two cannot be in a relationship." Now, whether or not the lore states that it could never happen is a different problem, but the council is not there to decide on your RP for you.

What they would do, in that situation, is open a group chat or some other method of discussion, and personally talk with Tryndamere and Sejuani about what they can do. They would explain why the community disapproves, then map out the lore to find a solution that the community and the two approve of.

The council maps out the lore so it's easy to discuss, and then work with the two to find a solution that the TWO like. IF Trynd and Sej approve, then we all move on happy. If they DON'T, we keep working.

They would work with OCs if they directly affected or are affected by the lore. And on that note, they probably wouldn't bother OCs because the OCs' arguments rarely boil over.

That's exactly what I just explained that I meant to say. I just said that they wouldn't decide, but make suggestions as to what would be more reasonable. I just think that people won't bother to listen to what they have to say about things, especially in the cases of OCs. Personally, it will probably lead to more rage by stubborn people.

I understand what the council would try do, I just don't think it would be useful, we already have discussion threads for this (mainly, and hopefully, civil discussion thread), I think we should just use those. Also, based upon the diversity of the community, we would probably need a council of ridiculous size to truly represent it, and those that would represent a decent sized group of the community, would probably not want to have anything to do with the council.

In my opinion, those who really care will just use the discussion threads that are already present. No need to over-complicate things.

Besides, we also have the rage thread for this and it comes with BONUS CAPS LOCK! (that was a joke)

These discussion threads don't get anything done, though. It's just community-wide raging from both ends of the argument, with long posts on both sides that are upvoted and agreed upon. The only time something happens is when someone gets fed up and quits. That's not a solution, the argument just stops because one person is tired of raging. It has been agreed on that these discussion threads do not solve things.

A great example is the whole Riven x Kat thing. People argued for an entire week getting nowhere, devolving into rants, accusations, and demands that people leave.

And then a couple people in Sanctuary chat asked Kaz to explain. He did so while people listened. The people were able to instantly pinpoint the misunderstanding that Kat had, we'd the thing was resolved right there.

That took 15 minutes. 15 minutes, as opposed to the days people wasted on arguing. I steadfastly believe people are willing to discuss things properly in an organized setting, when the entire community isn't all talking at once.

Those who want to be stubborn can refuse any help, but you're pretty much admitting that your argument isn't that important to you if you do that; you're just arguing for argument'd sake. Go right ahead, if that's what you want people to think of you.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with the Council itself. It's just that there's no way the whole community will accept it or listen to it, therefore it wouldn't be very effective. What it WOULD do is show who out there are simply ignorant people that only care about getting what they want, not being mature enough to cooperate with their fellow RPers in a calm fashion and have to make a big deal out of every little thing. I mean really, if it gets to the point where a Council would come in, and the person or people are too stubborn to even attempt a peaceful negotiation with someone else's help, that just shows that maybe they should just be ignored.

We all have opinions, we're all going to argue. It's how we choose to get around those dilemmas that's going to make this a better RPing environment.

Well, the Civil Discussion thread isn't supposed to be rage, it's supposed to basically be what the Council does, the problem is, it doesn't work, meaning the Council probably won't either, it will probably end in people raging at the Council.

The difference is that the council is mobile and can think for itself.

I don't think we should shut things down because of "probably"s.

Exactly.

While the community has people that might do this, I do not believe this is the majority. If people are asking you to change your RP a bit, and you absolutely refuse, then why are you RPing on a community? Just write a fanfic, or RP in-game if you don't care what people think of it.
