Hey, I'm wondering if 3D renders count? I know they're called 3D, but technically, a render is 2D....

The "2D" requirement for the entry just means it's not a sculpture (which I guess also disallows 3D printing), but if you want to create a 3-dimensional scene and enter a render of that as your entry, I can't see it being DQ'd.

I also dont see a reason why 3d should be NOT ok.
The rules said nothing about photoshop only.
The result counts.
Traditional art, Im not so sure about, since it's called digi art contest...but the other one was called gingerbread contest, so that says nothing. ^^

I don't have a tablet.. so the prizes kind of beat the point a little, but I think a month is enough to work hard in Photoshop. With a mouse. I can already feel my hand trembling making shabby lines.
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

For anyone who doesn't have a tablet and is using a mouse, there's a cool little program you can use that will help smooth your strokes. It's call Lazy Nezumi and it was created a by a guy to mimic the weighted brush in Z-brush (a 3d sculpting program). I use it because some meds I'm on give me tremors and make it hard for me to be as smooth as I'd like; maybe it will help you, too.
