Free-ish. Sign up via Steam for a beta key or ask around some of the Dota forums. Most people have a metric ton of invites to give away these days.

There is the option to buy a beta key for ~$30 (I think), which comes with some cosmetic items or custom couriers. Can't remember exactly which. EDIT: Just checked. You get the beta invite, the boar courier, a Jugger set, and a Sven set for $30.

Don't go this route whatever you do. If you want to play, give me your Steam info and you can have one of my keys from my metric ton pile of them.
