A little liquor in your coffee is pretty common...

My papa drinks his coffee with a shot of apricot rye, he says it warms him up for the day. I choose to believe him because frankly I'm terrified of the man.

The alcoholic connotations are probably stronger here in the states. Usually anyone who drinks in the morning is seen as an alcoholic, regardless of the amount.
