I've never read the Hobbit or any of the LotR books.

But I have not watched the Hobbit on the basis of; turning a light children's book into a Dark Hollywood Trilogy of Films has to end up with a #@$*&% production.
No matter how "LotR"y they try to make it.

Yea, I don't know what would possess someone to go all out geekmode by picking to see the Hobbit with a girl who doesn't know the first thing about LOTR

She actually just finished reading The Hobbit and enjoyed it. Also, she said yes. Isn't that more important than the movie we watch?

It really matter little what you do/see, the crux of the date will be the last 10-15mins and what is said, how it is handled and if a second date is established.

Everything else becomes irrelevant
