You claim to be someone who's been around a while - do you recall how it was like before we had ip reductions?
Unless you haven't logged into LoL for a while, there was a major notice a while back explaining the pricing changes, 2 in fact.
One thing about release weeks is that it can be quite a pain to play that new champ with so many people buying the first week out. Pricing 7800 ip at initial release means those willing to pay the premium have exclusive access for that first week. I myself rarely buy a champ on release, but feel it's more than fair. People willing to pay a premium deserve to not have to wait games on end to try their new champ.
