Supports really depend on your playstyle. They each have niche to fill.
Poke supports can win most trades. They have moderately aggressive positioning. Playing a poke support requires knowledge of when and when not to harass. They help their adc by keeping the enemy at low health and zoning them out. However, if you're not careful, you can get caught out and get killed easily.
Burst supports are all about kills. They have extremely aggressive positioning. Playing a burst support requires knowledge of when and when not to engage. They help their adc by feeding their adc kills and by zoning the enemy with the threat of a stun. A bad engage can often get you and your adc killed but a good engage will snowball your lane.
Disengage supports keep their adc safe and help their adc get to late game. They have passive positioning. Disengage supports are usually only picked to counter a burst lane. A disengage support uses their abilities to counter out early enemy engages. They help their adc by keeping their adc alive throughout the early and mid game and peeling enemies off their adc in the late game.
Sustain supports are by far the most forgiving type of support to play. Sustain supports usually have the lowest base hp and, as a result, require very passive positioning. Sustain supports specialize in healing their adc. Sustain supports are very useful in a war of attrition and can help your team outlast the enemy in a siege situation. However, their heals are on large cooldowns and cannot counteract large bursts of damage.
Every support helps their team in a different way. Your choice in supports should reflect which style you prefer most.
