Writing still in progress, will be finished soon enough™
It was the middle of the night, whit the moon shining high in the cloudless night sky. A lonely figure could be seen, standing atop a nearby mountain side which had an almost perfect overlook of Valoran. The massive figure, kneeling on his front legs, slowly panned his view from one side to the other. He could clearly see, even in the dark, the countless light that were flickering in the distance where Demacia. Redirecting his gaze to the other side, his light blue glowing eyes caught a glimpse of a sickly green cloud hanging over a location which he knew was Noxus. The figures gaze slowly began to drift towards the middle of the two cites, he sighed and in a low booming voice spoke “Valoran… A land that I could once call home, a land that was constantly plagued by war, who’s drums of war never ceased to play, a land where the sounds of countless marching men filled its very soil… A land that now sickens me… But no more.” He stood to his full size, eyes, that were now mere slits of shining blue light, burned whit anger “Tonight, this sickening time of peace ends… For the Institute of War will fall, and the drums of war will once again call men and women to war!” He raised his gauntlet cover had into the sky, forming a small glowing light blue ball and was suddenly surrounded by countless horsemen spirits. He brought up his glaive and pointed towards the League. “COME BROTHERS, RIDE OUT WHIT ME, TOWARDS THE LEAGUE AND BRING BACK WAR TO THIS ACURSED LAND!” And whit those words, the mass of horsemen began their deadly march.
The cold night air bit deep into Merulios bones as he continued his patrol atop of the wall that surrounded the Institute of War. He was one of the few stationed guards this week. Most of the other guards men and summoner’s were granted a leave from the institute to visit their families or other relatives. He cursed silently under his breath that he ended up being the last commanding officer to ask for leave which ended up in being declined. “Just my luck” he thought. “The one time I decided to not hurry in getting my request filed I end up burned…” He continued his patrol of the wall perimeter for quite a while when he noticed one of the sentries from the watch towers running up to him.
“Sir!” He saluted “There’s a large fog gathering in the distance!”
“A fog?” Merulio cover his face whit his palm and whit an annoyed tone spoke again “You came here to report of a fog..?”
“Sir… That’s no ordinary fog… It has a green coloration to it and appears to be moving towards our direction”
“Green fog?” He asked again, this time actually surprised “Poisonous?”
“We don’t know sir.”
“Where is it? Show me”
The two of them quickly made their way to the watch tower and sure enough, there was a thick greenish cloud heading towards them at a fast pace. “A green cloud is moving towards us and you only inform me now?” Merulio spoke whit anger. The fog was clearly visible and was only a few kilometers away. “Even in the dark you should have been able to spot it sooner, especially in a bright night such as this one! Why have you not done so soldier?!” Not waiting for the answer he turned to the stair well and made his way down the tower. “Incompetent sentries” he thought to himself as he rushed inside the Institute to repot to the summoners. He quickly bursted through the two heavy double doors leading to library where High summoner Dercuso was suppose to be. Sure enough he was there, sitting alone, near the fireplace on an arm chair which was covered in expensive red silk and covered in golden engravings in its solid oak frame. He quickly shot an annoyed glance at the sudden intrusion.
“I hope you have a good explanation for disturbing me Merulio. You know that I don’t appreciate it when I’m interrupted while studying”
“My apologies sir” He quickly kneeled on one leg and raised his head to speak “One of our sentries has spotted a fog approaching the Institu-“ Merulio was cut off before he could finish his sentence.
“A fog?!” Dercuso smashed his fist on the frame and small electrical surge could be seen moving through his arm. “You interrupt me in the middle of the night, while I’m studying because of some fog?!”
“Sir! It’s not an ordinary fog! It carries a sickly green color to it! We fear it might be a poisonous cloud. And it also does not follow the wind direction.”
“It doesn’t?” The anger in his voice was now replaced whit concern. “Hmm… Very well…” He slowly stood up from his armchair “Show it to me”.
The both of them quickly exited the library and quickly made their way to watch tower. The wall around it was now filled whit guards looking down and murmuring something Merulio could not decipher. They quickly made their way up the stairs and were greeted by a large greenish cloud, standing still just a few ten’s of meters away. As Merulio eyes widened in shock he felt a sharp pain in the back of head and quickly stumbled forwards as he received a slap to the back of his head by the now enraged summoner.
“It’s at the very edge of our wall and only now you inform me! Incompetent buffoon!”
As Merulio fumbled to regain his posture he shot a quickly glance to the fog and looked back at Dercuso who was now steaming whit anger “B-b-but sir! The cloud… I-it was about 3 kilometers away when I was informed about it and I quickly rushed to you! It wasn’t like this when I left I swear!”
“The Captain is telling the truth sir!” The sentry that informed Merulio about the fog stepped up “When I first spotted the cloud I could barely see it! Once I spotted its strange coloration I immediately rushed to inform the Captain. And even then it was a fair distance away. The fog was moving extremely fast, but the captain probably didn’t notice it when he rushed off to find you sir!”
Anger was still in Dercusos eyes, tho not as strong as before. He quickly looked down to the fog that was standing completely still as something caught his eye. Deeper inside of the fog, figures could be seen moving. “Merulio, do you see that?” He pointed a finger to where he saw the movement”
Merulio squinted his eyes a bit and nodded. “It looks like… Horsemen sir. But I can’t tell who’s horsemen they are. The fog is too thick.”
The summoner scratched his chin for a while thinking of what to do “Bring me my horse and form an escort, I’m going to investigate.”
“Sir. Is that wise?” Questioned Merulio.
“Do not question my decisions and do as I say.”
“Yes sir” He saluted and quickly ran off to issue orders. The summoner observed the movements in the fog while the captain gathered the men and once he was called down he left.
“Get the men into battle positions and close the gates after we leave. Also inform the other summoners of the current situation. I’ll be back momentarily, have your men waiting by the gate house to quickly let us back in.”
“As you command high summoner” Merulio turned to the gate keepers and shouted “OPEN THE GATES!”
As soon as Dercuso was outside of gate he could hear it being closed and Merulio was giving out orders. Two minutes of riding and they were already deep inside the fog where he saw the figures from atop the tower. But there was nothing there now except hoof marks on the ground, leading deeper inside. He motioned his men to lead the way as they went deeper inside. The air inside the fog was cold, much colder then it was before entering it, there was also no movement as if the air itself was afraid to move. Moments later the guards in front of the summoner stopped as the fog began to slowly clear around them, reveling what seemed like a whole battalion of horsemen standing in a line, unmoving. What unnerved Dercuso the most is that they were also partially see through, as they were just spirits. They also were not humans, they were centaurs. Dercuso had read about such beings that use to live in Runeterra a long time ago, he never expected to see any of them, let alone in such a condition. He quickly panned his view from one side to the other in an attempt to find the one who summoned such an army, but he couldn’t see him or her. Instead he walked in front of his guards and shouted at the horsemen ranks “I AM DERCUSO! HIGH SUMMONER OF THE INSTITUTE OF WAR! AND I DEMAND TO SPEAK TO YOUR LEADER NOW!” A few seconds have passed and there was no answer, he was about to shout again when finally the middle ranks of the horsemen spread aside as one of them stepped forth. He was different tho. His body was not spectral as the rest, but it was also not fully covered in flesh. The lower part was, but top of his body seemed to be engulfed in blue flames, covered in black armor whit a huge gaping maw where its chest should be, out of which the flames could be seen spewing out. He calmly walked toward the summoner, his metal plate face showed no expression. He stopped just outside of Dercusos comfort zone and spoke whit a voice that managed to chill his very bones.
“My name is Hecarim and I have come to tear down your little establishment here. Surrender now and your deaths will be swift. Resist, and your souls shall burn in my eternal flames, the choice is yours mortal”
“How… HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT MONSTER! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM! I AM THE HIGH SUMMO-“ He was cut off before he managed to finish the sentence when Hecarims glaive was pointed at him.
“I care not for your name or your position in the hierarchy of your pathetic system. I gave you a choice, now you must decide… And do so quickly, before my patients ends.”
“ THIS ACT OF INSOLENCE WILL NOT GO UNPUNISHED. I SHALL SE IT PERSONALY TO YOUR PUNISHEMNT ONCE YOUR PAFETIC ARMY S WIPED OUT!”
“I see you made your decision.” He raised his hand into the air, and whita swirft motion dispersed the glowing cloud around his army and the summoner. “Now you shall face the consiquences. ONWARD BROTHERS! TO BATTLE!”
Dercuso and his escort had barely managed to turn around as they were swiftly ran down by the now attacking army. While the rest of Dercusos escort was dispatched quickly, he himself was knocked down on the ground and ignored by the marching army. He quickly rolled on his belly in an attempt to crawl away when he was suddenly stopped by Hecarims glaive which pinned him to ground. “Your soul is now mine to consume oh might Dercuso” The horseman spoke whit a mocking tone as he slowly began to tear away the summoners soul from his body. The last thing that Dercuso saw was the archers on the wall preparing to fire and then his vision was consumed by flames of blue.
“ARCHERS! COMENCE FIRING! BRACE THE MAIN GATE! FORM RANKS IN THE CENTRAL PLAZA!” Merulio was franticly shouting our orders now as he saw the deaths of Dercuso and his men. The walls where now bustling whit activity as the archers shot there arrows into the advancing enemies. The men down below were also in a hurry bracing the gates and forming ranks in case the spiritual beings managed to break through the gate. The archers only managed to fire off a single volley when the horsemen got to the gates, it yielded no effect. The arrows merely passed through their ethereal bodies and implanted themselves into the ground. And to Merulios shock, neither did the gates yield any effect. The spiritual beings simply marched straight through the stone walls and crashed into the disorganized ranks of soldiers in the central plaza.
“THE ENEMY HAS BREACHED THE WALL-GAH!” The screaming soldier was beheaded as he attempted to inform those at the back. The attack was so sudden that most of the men in the back still thought that the fighting was going on outside the walls and now they suddenly found themselves in the midst of a fierce battle. Swords, shields, spears and glaives where clashing whit one-another as the men attempted to hold back the army of horsemen, but it was proving to be an impossible task. While the defending armies casualties where now being counted in the dozens, the enemy has suffered minimal losses and only by the hands of the few summoners that were still stationed. The simple steel just couldn’t cut or stab the ethereal bodies of the horsemen leaving the soldiers to act as meat shields while the summoners stayed at the back and used their magic to take on the spirits one by one. The defenders where now on the retreat, slowly pulling away from the walls and the gate, the men that were station on them where already dead and only a few managed to pull back in time, amongst them was Merulio and the second high summoner, that was not on leave, Felmon.
Gaining control of the gatehouse finally allowed Hecarim to join the battle. So far he spent his time killing off the defending stragglers that were cut off from the main retreating force. Unlike his summoned army, Hecarims body was not spiritual which meant that the swords and spears where actually able to harm him. But he did not care. The pain only encouraged him more to fight whit greater ferocity, as there was a chance that these flesh bags might actually provide him whit a challenge.
Whit a final thrust of his glaive he dispatched the last men of a small group that was cut off from the main body. He slowly overlooked the battlefield, looking for his next victims. There were still quite a few groups of men desperately attempting to defend, but where quickly overwhelmed by the ethereal beings. A larger gathering of men caught his attention, there was about 20 soldiers forming a round wall of shields around two summoners who were managing to hold their ground. Whit a simple thought he ordered his army to ignore that particular group and whit a grin that was forming on his face, he charged them. He began running at them slowly, but picking speed as he went on. About half way to them he lowered his glaive and braced himself as he slammed into them. Those unlucky to face the brunt of Hecarims charge where either instantly killed from the impact or from being crushed under his hooves while the first summoner was impaled and thrown away from the defending circle.
A bold of lightning hit him in the shoulder as the second summoner began unleashing his power onto him while the remaining men were attempting to surround him. He took to steps to the side while sweeping his weapon in a wide arch, killing off four men as he felt a sharp pain in his side as one of the men managed to get a deep cut. His achievement was short lived as he was quickly split in half vertically, Hecarim then quickly braced himself against the ground as he kicked back whit his hind legs, shattering the skulls of three more. He then felt another sting at his left side, as he slowly turned to face the attacker he felt another deep cut on his right side and then another on his lower abdomen. The summoners was also attacks were also beginning to yield effect as the countless bolts of lightning were tearing away at his armor and searing his exposed lower half of the body. But he did not relent. If anything he began to fight whit more ferocity, making large sweeps whit his glaive, beheading or simply slicing up the surround men. But the countless wounds where begging to take their toll, and more were forming each second. His vision began to blur, his swings became sloppy and more often than not missed and he was struggling to maintain balance. “It’s time” He thought to himself. He pulled back slightly as he killed his final victim and raised his hand into the air. “DESPAIR!” he shouted as the ground around him caught flame and a small greenish orb formed in his hand, the same color as the flames. The remaining men quickly fell to the ground, screaming in agony as there very soul was being burned. And while the surrounding men cried in pain, Hecarim sighed in relief as the wounds that littered his body began to close, his vision returned to normal, as did his strength. Now he was ready for more. The flames then died off as he finished off the ones that were still breathing and set his sights on the now crumbling defensive line of the main force.
