Play him where ever. Whatever is open of those 3 spots, just pick him. :3

You can play him mid as an AD-Caster (AD Mage) like Talon, Urgot, or Pantheon.
Or you can play him top.

Personally he's not fun in the jungle..
Here's a good build:

Iceborn Gauntlet (Situational)
Trinity Force (Depends if you go with the rest of the build)
Black Cleaver
Warmog's
Atma's Impaler
Mercury Treads / Berserker's Greaves / Boots of Swiftness.

This is the "Caster" way to build him, not intended to run in with basic attacks but instead utilizing his kit and trinity force with a tanky build and Atma's.. Like a mage, he uses his spells for combat.
