There are multiple reasons why Irelia should be remade.
| When AD carries have 3k or more health, Irelia's Hiten Style becomes almost useless. She already had problems killing carries late game in S2, with them just lifesteal tanking her. |
1. Nerfed multiple times
2. Just barely "holding on" to viability at the moment, with her core items being nerfed and the new build styles countering her
3. Kit should synergize better, and fit her thematically.
4. Certain logic, such as:
|
Irelia, being an Ionian military leader, should be able to match up fairly against Garen or Darius, but she obviously can't. Hiten Style is described in the wiki as an art in which swords breathe in your presence. This implies elegance, but Irelia's skill-set and especially her weapon - a freaking block - are obviously not elegant at all. |
| 1. She was made in a different "era" of League champions, where bruisers were a lot more "moderate," while now we have Darius, Jayce, Rengar (before his nerfs), which are all champs with large amounts of damage with limited sustain. Irelia, especially with her nerfed sustain, has a hard time dealing with these all-in type of champions. |
| 2. The way we play League of Legends in season 3 and specific item nerfs and buffs hurt Irelia doubly. Health stacking is prevalent, so what would normally be a 2k HP carry is now a 3k HP carry. Irelia is hurt by that because her true damage does not scale. Consider if her auto-attacks did 0 damage and her only damage comes from Hiten Style. This is like saying she needs appx. 42 hits (3000/75) compared to 28 hits (2000/75) last season. In addition, the attack speed items Irelia's Hiten Style scales with have been nerfed, and one has been removed. See Wit's End, Trinity Force, and Ionic Spark. |

3. First, I'm not saying Irelia's kit is weak. The problem is that it derives strength from 4-5 separate extremely strong abilities, rather than 4-5 abilities that are decent alone, but amazing when played together right. Also, her steroid is not very good in the current health stacking meta, explained above. Her kit generally feels out of place and non-synergetic. We have a random passive, a random Q, a random steroid, a random CC, and a random AoE ult (that does mediocre damage) all put together. This just feels weird. On the other hand, we have a champion like Orianna whose kit has incredible synergy and has many ways to play it. You can E on initiator and R when they hit the enemy team, for double the initiation power. You can use W as a field to help your team chase, help them escape, etc. All of the abilities mesh with each other and combo logically to make a champion that feels good / fun to play. Irelia? She just press Q onto carry, pops W, spams R at a large creep wave, and E's when she has a lower health percentage than her opponent. This is definitely comparing apples to oranges, but Orianna is an example of beautiful kit synergy in play. |

4. The cherry on the cake is that thematically and logically she doesn't make sense. Logically: She's the captain of the Ionian Guard, which implies that she is one of the strongest individuals in the Ionian military. Guess what. Garen and Darius both crush her, along with many other champions. As one of the strongest soldiers of Ionia, she should at least be able to go toe to toe with Garen or Darius, or at least have ways of playing smartly to win. Right now, all she can do is E them when they try to go on her and run away. Sometimes she can't even run away. Even when she gets level 9, the strongest point in her game, she still might not be able to beat them. Thematically Also, Hiten Style, seen here http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wik...#Various_Sects says that blades "breathe" in the wielder's grasp, implying an elegant sword style and a transcendent nature to the swordmaster. Imagine the swordmaster/trueblade class from the Fire Emblem series. You may not have the same thought of a warrior whose sword is an extension of their arm, but you get my point. But what does Irelia do? She swings a huge chunk of metal and randomly summons floating blades. Her weapon does not feel elegant, and Irelia does not feel transcendent. |
So, how can we go about remaking Irelia?
There are 3 ways to branch off:
1. Based off of the description of Hiten Style
2. Based off of her position as captain of the Ionian Guard.
3. Based off of Riot's initial intent to make her "thrive in battle." (see below)
http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wik...nd#Development
If we go with Hiten Style, the graceful style and transcendence will make her either an assassin or a melee carry.
While if we go with "captain of the Ionian Guard," the leadership position makes her into a tank.
Finally, the third intent could go either way, but the current iteration invalidates the statement made in the above link "Irelia's biggest weakness is stuns and other crowd control" (hahahaha)
What is most important is that her kit meshes together and generally feels fun to play.
I'm not posting a champion rework, just that Irelia should be reworked, and that she should be remade with these core tenets in mind.
Also pls fix lollipop Irelia, the concept art was the right direction, just tone down those proportions and give her a waist.
Not even that. When AD carries have 3k or more health, Irelia's Hiten Style becomes almost useless. She already had problems killing carries late game, with them just lifesteal tanking her.
