I understand it was called the river in DotA, but the name made no sense in that context either. The 'river' was one large body of water and two smaller ones that gave the illusion of continuity. Still, there could not possibly be any sort of flow, therefore defying the definiton of a river.

Who says the word "river" means the same thing on Runeterra?

For all you know "river" means "a small pond, frequently inhabited by dangerous predators like werewolves, mummies and vikings."

By the same token, I could say:

inhabited = pranced about in
dangerous predators = cuddly animals
werewolves = puppies
mummies = rabbits
vikings = dolphins

Ya, well what we call the jungle very obviously isn't a tropical rainforest either so I just say get over it.

Just like how the place where you heal is still called a fountain even though it's a pile of rocks.

you can use top and bottom without top equating to north. if you were on the north face of a mountain, you would refer to the top of the mountain the same as if you were on the south face.

Actualy, we call them that because they are on the top and bottom of the map, top and bottom has nothing to do with north and south.
