I can never seem to get the hang of moving my character while playing unlocked screen, I always seem to walk into melee range when I want to AA minions as a ranged champ. And I can't even follow teamfights in unlocked screen. One other problem, I tènd to loss all map awareness when unlocked.

Any advice?

Have you never played an RTS game? Those all have unlocked screens, and adjusting ought to be easy for you.

Still, I have two things for your consideration.

1) You can use spacebar to center the camera on your champion. This can help you keep track of yourself in teamfights.

2) You can use spacebar in locked camera mode to unlock it, I think? This would let you swing the camera around to see other things when needed, but otherwise leave it locked on you.

As for map awareness, that comes from checking your minimap. Locked vs unlocked should have no impact on you looking at the minimap.

The Y key also toggles between locked and unlocked.

I don't know but I would advise putting a lot of effort into learning how to not use it. You'll get tunnel visioned with it on.

I find that its just the opposite for me. When I have it on lock I tend to concentrate more on whats going on around me (minions, the mini map, checking the score board ect) but as soon as I unlock I spend more time trying to keep the camera where I want it and not moving my mouse too much or I move the camera too far then have to hit space bar to find myself again and during a team fight 2 seconds can mean the difference between a kill and being killed.

I find it way to difficult to play with unlocked camera (especially on Orianna) but I keep my pointer finger that would be on my R ready to click Y so I can check around if I'm not fighting someone or teamfighting. Using the spacebar just makes me warn people to back away from everything...

If you click on the minimap and hold, you can switch your view then it'll just snap back. This is what I do to look ahead of me, otherwise, it's easier to just leave it on you. Less time spent screwing around with the camera.
