They had a different art direction for some of their earlier versions. Mundo looked like Hulk, while Taric looked much more manlier. They did the same for Gangplank, but they replaced his sword for a freaking anchor.

New arts from chinese artists are cheaper, than licensing Riot's.

Indeed also some of the rules in china say you can have skeletons showing in any media so you got scion a,d one other can't recall how to spell his name but they had to change there art and model a little.
