We have been hard at work at League of Legends: Dominion, and we're excited to finally unveil the all-new capture and hold game mode - and our beautiful new map, The Crystal Scar - to the world.
Be sure to check out the official trailer, and Tryndamere's announcement.
We met up with a bunch of the biggest gaming media outlets in the world earlier this week to give them their first look at League of Legends: Dominion - and get their hands on it right from the start!
In this thread, I'll be detailing all of the news around the interwebs as stories surface. Last updated: 8/9 at 7:20 PM for GameSpot Written Preview
G4 - X-Play
X-Play's Morgan Webb talks to our very own Volibar about Dominion, and shows off some gameplay footage!
"Dominion certainly turns the genre on its head, in a way that retains the elements that are now standard, and tweaks the gameplay in brand new ways. Riot promised players that it would do something "surprising," and it wanted to bring something new to the genre, so Dominion seems destined to enable both goals."
"Dominion, an entirely new game type for League of Legends, is more exciting than a rollercoaster built on top of a giant rollercoaster car that is actively moving on another rollercoaster. On fire."
"Dominion is playable at the upcoming Gamescom and Penny Arcade Expo consumer trade shows, and -- according to Riot -- it goes live shortly thereafter. It's also freely available to all players from the moment it comes out. Ohhhhhh yeeeeaaaah!"
IGN Video - Video interview with Tryndamere, plus gameplay footage
"This represents an enormous addition to a game that has been traditional, almost conservative in adhering to its DotA-influenced style of play, and where the focus has almost always been on the development of new characters or new tactics. This Riot has started a revolution, and one that has arrived at just the right time."
"From start to finish, each Dominion match felt like it was filled with back-to-back battles, and with the hectic back-and-forth nature of the map, it’s never over til it’s over."
"The important thing is, Riot's actively moving League of Legends in new and exciting directions. If you haven't checked it out yet, you really ought to, as it's already become one of the biggest deals in PC gaming."

"The match itself was essentially 20 minutes of the most intense moments from Summoner's Rift--the location of the game's primary five-versus-five game mode. We can't wait to dive back into Dominion."
"Riot Games describe Dominion as an "accelerated version of the classic League of Legends" with matches lasting about 20 minutes. Gamers will have their first chance to check out the game later this month at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, and later at PAX Prime in Seattle."
"Riot Games has addressed this issue by introducing something entirely unheard of in the genre. Enter Dominion, the newest gameplay mode that overhauls the classic system to accommodate a more fast-paced, action-packed gaming experience."
"There are tons of great mechanics and features that encourage lots of back-and-forth as both teams battle over control of the map."
"For League of Legends veterans who've been waiting a long time for a new mode, you definitely won't be disappointed with League of Legends Dominion."
"In a nutshell, Dominion is League of Legends distilled into pure adrenaline."
"The result is a League of Legends experience that has quick and furious combat right at the get go and sustained throughout the average 20 minutes of play. After my first hands-on I couldn't help but scrawl 23 minutes of awesome in my notepad."
"As David Turley, better known as Riot Games' Phreak, tells us: "There are no hopeless moments, only heroic moments." This couldn't be more true in League of Legends: Dominion where the action doesn't cease until the match is over."
"Rather than just being a new take on old concepts (i.e. Twisted Treeline), Dominion promises to bring an entirely new gaming experience to League of Legends. We’ll have hands on coverage from PAX coming up at the end of the month, so look for specifics about new features coming to League of Legends and Dominion then."
"Best of all, like League of Legends itself, Dominion mode will be free to play. Players will be able to use all their existing skills, equipment and unlocked characters on the new map."
Ten Ton Hammer
"We get our hands on the new mode to let you know what you’re in for, and it’s a wild ride to say the least! It’s quite fun and quite near being finished. Dominion mode is not meant to replace the traditional gameplay, but it adds a new flavor that’s much more endearing than just a new map!"
Rock, Paper, Shotgun
"High-intensity! None of this middle-intensity rubbish, right."
"The focus of the new game mode is on moments of individual heroism as well as team-based play--a new renown system and circular, close-quarters terrain will reward players who contribute to the team rather than just those who score consecutive kills."
"While the company is well-known for its constant development -- it releases tweaks, features, and new characters frequently -- this is the first real example of its large scale undertakings since the game's launch."
"Riot Games has been promising something special for League of Legends fans in 2011, and now they’ve made good on all that teasing with the announcement of League of Legends: Dominion."
