And there's nothing wrong with that. When you QQ about someone instalocking, you are basically saying your right to choose a champ is more important than his/hers, which is essentially what you're arguing is the problem with their actions. Now, if I instalock, I'm not going to insist you play a given champ/role. I understand I forfeit that right when I instalock.
If you are going to post an argument against what I've suggested, please include your answer to the following question in your post: You and two players on your team want to play AP carry. Who should get to play AP Carry, and who should have to switch to the other roles?
In light of how much this thread has grown I've decided to bring up all of the objections that I've come across so far in this thread, and my responses to them. That way, there won't be any need to bring them up again unless you have a new and exciting way to argue why I might be wrong.
1. You are just being selfish.
a. Actually, I'm not. Because I am instalocking, I agree to forfeit my right to push for a certain team composition. That means if I instalock an AD carry and you want to play one too, that's fine by me. When you complain about me instalocking, you are essentially saying, "I wanted to play that role, and more so, I wanted you to play something else." Who is actually being selfish?
2. You are just ruining team compositions. Don't you care if your team wins or not?
a. Yes, I care if we win or not. I will be trying my best to win, with the champion that I've selected. However, this is a normal game, and normal games are meant to be casual, and for experimentation. If you want to play a serious game, go play ranked.
3. Some people treat normals as serious business. You are wasting their time.
a. They can treat it however they want. Riot has designated normal games as a mode for casual games. If they want to play serious business, there is a separate game mode for that: ranked.
I figure I'll just add this in here:

We don't want people to be super tryhard in normal games - go do that in Ranked games.

4. Why don't you just pick your champion and not lock in?
a. By not locking in, I give my teammates false hope that I might change my pick if they keep pestering me about it. By locking in, I let them know that I am not switching, so that they can then make their decision, whether they want to play the champ they want, pick around my pick, or just dodge for a new team. It is actually rude NOT to lock in when you know you have no intention of switching.
5. Why don't you communicate with your team? This is a team game after all.
a. This is a misconception that several people have made. I most certainly do communicate with my team, in a very direct fashion. I tell them that since I instalocked I have no say in whatever they want to play, and if they want to lock the same role, that is completely fine by me. In fact, I likely communicate more than the person who picks a champ and doesn't lock in, even though they have no intention of switching.
If you guys come up with any reasons why instalocking in normal blind pick games is a bad practice that don't boil down to: "I want to play champ A in team composition ABCDE but because you locked in A I have to play B," please post.
