How to unlock new champions?

How do I unlock new heroes? is it by level? or do i have to buy it from the store? Some1 enlighten me thanx!

You need to buy them from the store. But do not despair.

As you play games (win or lose), you gain Influence Points (IP). With these IP, you can buy Champions and Runes.
The other option is Riot Points (RP) in which you pay real money for. You can buy Champions, skins, and IP/EXP boosts with them.

You get IP for every game you play, more for a win than a loss, and once a day you get a "first win of the day" reward. Also, the longer a game goes, the more ip you get, win or lose. An average win will give you ~90ip, and average loss ~75. These numbers are from the top of my head, so they may not be exactly right. IP costs for champions range from 450-6300. Hope that helps.

I bought 4 champions but i can't play with them. Any ideas?
Don't worry.
Restarting the game fixed the problem.
