Jack in the Box math omg! ITT; Why only late-game boxing Shaco's got nerfed.

Jack in the Box
Base damage reduced to 35/50/65/80/95 from 35/55/75/95/115
Ability power ratio reduced to 0.2 from 0.25
Activation range reduced to 300 from 350
Cast range increased to 425 from 400


Box shoots 10 times if given the chance. You can have a total of 7-8 boxes depending on your CDR, and the first one will die shortly after you place the last. You will almost never get someone into a "full" nest. It's basically like winning the lottery if you do.

300 AP * .25 = 75. 300 * .2 = 60

700 AP * .25 = 175. 700 AP *.2 = 140

I'm adding a 700AP scenario for perspective of AP Shaco's end-game Post and Pre nerf as far as boxes are concerned. 300-400AP is the average AP Shaco will get though.

Also adding 3 shots, and the full 10 shots. Most people are able to either run away or in some cases like Alistar can herpderp on your boxes before they can kill anything.

Also including having AP and level 1 boxes, to give you an idea of how much damage comes from the scaling and how much is purely base damage.

Pre-Nerf.

Level 1, no AP.

  • 3 Shots. 35 * 3 = 105 per box.
  • 10 Shots. 35 * 10 = 350 per box
  • 35 per hit.

Level 5, no AP.
  • 3 Shots. 115 * 3 = 345 per box. (Almost a full box of Level 1)
  • 10 Shots. 115 * 10 = 1150 per box.
  • 115 per hit.

Level 1, 300 AP.
  • 3 Shots. 35 + 75 * 3 = 330.
  • 10 Shots. 35 + 75 * 10 = 1100
  • 110 per hit.

Level 5, 300 AP.
  • 3 Shots. 115 + 75 * 3 = 570
  • 10 Shots. 115 + 75 * 10 = 1900
  • 190 per hit

Level 5, 700AP.
  • 3 Shots. 115 + 175 * 3 = 870
  • 10 Shots. 115 + 175 * 10 = 2900
  • 290 per hit.

Post-Nerf.

Level 1, no AP.
  • Same.

Level 5, no AP.
  • 3 Shots. 95 * 3 = 285
  • 10 Shots. 95 * 10 = 950
  • 95 per hit.

Level 1, 300 AP.
  • 3 Shots. 35 + 60 * 3 = 285
  • 10 Shots. 35 + 60 * 10 = 950
  • 95 per hit

Level 5, 300 AP.
  • 3 Shots. 95 + 60 * 3 = 465
  • 10 Shots. 95 + 60 * 10 = 1550
  • 155 per hit.

Level 5, 700 AP.
  • 3 Shots. 95 + 140 * 3 = 705
  • 10 Shots. 95 + 140 * 10 = 2350
  • 235 per hit.

Conclusion. After nerf.
Per hit these are the nerfs.

So the damage nerfs are insignificant until you get to end-game and have huge amounts of AP.

And guess what? As AP Shaco you could be shiving people and DFG + Lichbane for 98% of their health at this point anyways.

Edit; you can do the math for multiple boxes yourselves. Take the numbers I gave you and multiply by 2/3/4/5/6/7/8. Have fun! Yay math!

The sad part is, if you ask most of the people who posted about how hard he was nerfed this patch, they wouldn't be able to name a change made outside of Jack in the Boxes.

While your math about the damage is all very true, I won't question it, the fact that the activation range was decreased by 50 and the cast range only increased by 25 gives you a net 25 loss on the effective range of a box when ganking a lane as a jungling shaco (stacking boxes is pretty noob anyways), which is unfortunately a nerf on the ability to gank a lane.
