Uniqueness and novelty aren't really all that important as the execution of uniqueness and novelty - There's not a single unique or new mechanic on Riven's kit.. pretty much at all.

Riven has unique and cool animations. Thats what makes her very fun to play. 80% of the uniqueness and fun of playing a champion resembles in the artists and animators.
Look at pulsefire ezreal, has the same kit as ezreal and will be a massive firesale.
So a problem in boring fiora is for example in no animations in riposte.
