@Morello and Riot Why I think the Irelia nerf was unneeded (Wall of Text)

I've had to lane against like... 2 Garens and a Nidalee in recent memory. I was not a happy man.

The thing with Irelia was, you couldn't get counterpicked so it was safe to firstpick her in ANY situation.
Now if someone picks let's say Wukong, you shouldn't pick Irelia just because she is able to lane vs him. You are gonna pick someone with long ranged harass or a champ that is impossible to trade with and deny Wukong's CS.

That was the huge deal with Irelia, and Riot ruined it. How you can't see it is confusing, but that's about it.

Also I see Irelia with Wukong one of the worst to retaliate ganks, because Wukong needs to transition from early same with Irelia. If that process is bad they are gonna be deadweight for the rest of the game. The catch here is, Wukong can make a comeback in lane with his insane scalings, Irelia can't.
Udyr vs irelia is probably one of the most lopsided matchups in league. Even before sustain nerfs. You could counterpick irelia, people just forgot about udyr. Irelia has a nice stun and is pretty tanky with CCRED which is perfect for diving. Shes viable but you're trying to make her sound like shes unplayable because you cant first pick her all the time and be safe 95% of the time? Her late game and lvls 5-9+ are pretty similar to how they were before if you get there. No one picked her for her early game so if you can get by with her early game, why not pick her?

I am not denying she isn't viable, that she can't lane. But she definitely isn't viable in the same sense.
I didn't have much trouble with Udyr pre-nerf, freeze the lane under tower since it's VERY hard to roam with Udyr he has trouble shoving you in.

Her lategame and midgame definitely hasn't changed as much, but it's noticable that her W heals less than her rank 2 did prenerf.
And it's also undeniable that she does get items way later, because IF she does get camped early there is only a slight chance of making a comeback, because as you said, she can't just LOLheal her up again unlike Udyr and champions alike.

As long as you two are floating around the thread I've got to ask... whatever happened to the Dorans Shield start?

Like I feel like there is just this big... gap missing where I don't remember why it worked and why we stopped doing it.

Cloth 5 gives you more sustain in early levels, builds into wriggles/tabi, and also gives more armor, so I think against most solo top comps getting cloth 5 is a better choice.

I was trying to ask why we ever started doing it in the first place.

I hate cloth 5 anyways. Seems **** tier for efficiency in spending my starting gold and health pots got nerfed like crazy anyways.

Honestly, it's not as drastic as Eve, but this is what Riot does.

Part of the community complains and gripes about a champion that isn't over powered or anything, just FotM and hard to counter, and super nerfs them into uselessness.

It happened like this with Irelia too, here's the Eve example:

Riot: "Oh no, people are whining about getting stunned out of no where!"

Community: "But she's an assassin! A stealth champion! That's what she's supposed to do!"

Riot: "So?" *NERF NERF NERF*

And now Irelia:

Riot: "Oh boy, no one can beat Irelia top, better nerf her."

Community: "But she's a mid game champion, she's not even OP! Look at her late game!"

Riot: "Oh well..." *NERF NERF NERF*

All champions can be not fun to play against to a certain extent, and Irelia is only at most slightly more frustrating to play against. Champions should only be nerfed because it is not fun to play against if and only if it is extremely unfun/frustrating to play against (eve, twitch). Irelia is NOT one of those champions. Even shaco after all those nerfs, are more frustrating to play against compared to Irelia.
