I haven't seen any interesting team comps in a while. They seem to stick to the same meta - One solo top, one jungle, AP mid, Support + AD carry on bot. Anyone have any interesting ideas to break the meta? For instance, what if 3 went mid - An AD carry and 2 supports, then have 2 strong solos on top and bottom. Is LoL stuck in one mode? what out of the box team comps/metas have you seen?

The current meta maximizes the total gain for the team by spreading out and exploiting all of the resources that are available. If two champs are in the same lane, they get a lot less XP per person than one champ would for the same minion kill alone.

The jungle takes one person out of a lane (usually top) so that the top laner can maximize their xp per kill. Top lane is usually tanky since it's the easiest lane to get ganked in. The bottom lane is usually occupied by a support (which usually doesnt try to last hit minions) and a slow starting carry. The support's job is partially to ensure that their laning partner gets to farm as much as possible.

Remember that there is a finite number of minions that spawn per minute for each lane, so there is a max # of gold per minute. In addition to "wasting" xp, only one person can last hit a minion, so there is little reason to triple up. Three people in mid lane, one top and one bottom would be a pretty terrible strat at the start of the game since all of your jungle resources would go to waste. The three in the lane would be completely underleveled and underfarmed due to the small amount of resources each individual would be getting in comparison to the other team using the current basic positions.

These are all nice things Enduser, but the meta can turn out to be quite different in some situations, if you use the question originally asked. You just assumed he was noob, you were boss and then described what types of champions based on the pre-determined meta do, not why they would excel over a creative use of the 98 champions out there

Think of what a Singed, Volibear, Darius, Blitzcrank, Orianna would be like in a gank/ teamfight.

Multitude of grab/pulling maneuvers, cc, speed boosts etc etc. All it takes is for a few coordinated lunges at the damage dealing enemy champs and it's GG.

You don't have to retort like a 5 yo. That could be one idea, however if you state it like that it makes you look stupid, and no-one will take you seriously.

An actual plan, and not a troll by littlemissprissy, would be to have ori mid, with a ganking darius and blitzcrank on either side of the brush.

Personally i can't think of a better gank, unless there's a shaco shadowing mid during that gank, which would make it a 4v1 early easy kill.

Repeat accordingly. Wards in brush? go from behind.Wards behind as well? well that's a hell lot of gold on wards.

That strategy would be a gigantic gift horse to the other team as now they'd have one fully unprotected lane, one underprovisioned lane and two jungles. Did you read what I said about exploiting your team's resources to the fullest? That's just going to have 3-4 dorks sitting in the middle and the other team can have 1 or 2 dudes sitting under the tower waiting for them to overextend. Meanwhile, their laners are in a farmer's paradise and your turrets aren't protected. Yes, you may get those 1,2, or 3 ganks but it's nowhere close to the return the other team would be getting from all of your unclaimed resources.

The problem with creating a new viable team comp is that you have to counter the current setup, and in a bigger way than just switching lanes. The old team comp that was run here in NA was just blown away by the setup that EU was running, which is now the current setup. The only reason the different setup worked was because there was no way to reliably succeed against it using the old team setup. What you can't do to find a new setup is just guess at some combination of champ types in various roles and think it will revolutionize the game. You need to think about it, make sure you know why it will work against what is going on now.

thanks for the comments guys. enduser you are perfectly correct that the current meta takes full advantage of the allotted to your team. im just curious if anyone has tried/seen anything else in a while. id like to try out some weird metas.
