Did you by any chance play WoW under this moniker (on Kargath) a few years back?

So what made Varus choose a bow as his weapon? Was he previously an Ionian ceremonial archer? or is that more to do with the corruption just taking a form that it deemed more fitting to its powers?

Is the corruption tied to the void in anyway? Or is this separate?

Was there any inspiration from Kazuma in s-Cry-ed? I made a thread about it but it didn't come off the ground :P (http://na.leagueoflegends.com/board/...078&highlight=)

Not familiar with fullbring manifestation, but if it sounds similar, I'd be interested to check it out! It's pretty tough to have completely original ideas, and sometimes people actually prefer something that calls back memories of some similar trope or fantasy that they enjoyed in the past. That said, we always do try to put our own spin on things and walk that line to deliver something you appreciate and enjoy in League of Legends.

Harrow had a tough one. Hecarim is, by nature and design, a mysterious character. Also, he is pretty much ALWAYS flocked by a mob of Fiora cosplayers who make huge demands of his attention.

Everyone is a trained soldier, due to compulsory enlistment. Noxus is one massive war machine.

A single man with a corruptive power could not defeat that.
I don't think Varus troubles himself with the math. He has a mission and he will follow it no matter the cost or consequence. Besides, who's to say the actions of one man can't (or for that matter haven't already) change[d] the world?

I don't think he's thought that far ahead. Even if he has now, I sincerely doubt he thought about it when he embraced the corruption. Things happen in the heat of the moment whose repercussions we give no heed until it's too late...and then...we have to live with them and make the best of it.

That's a really good question that I think is important to preserve for you.

This really runs the gamut. I can't give you any examples because our champions are who they are and it's not really right to imagine them with different names. If you ever write a story with a friend and name several characters, you might see how sometimes unexpected differences in the interpretations of names appear.

Don't have anything to report on this front at this time.

I've been here since late May of '09 (early beta). It's been really amazing to watch Riot go from a small studio with a dream to the makers of a well-known game with such an awesome global audience. My job is, in many ways, the job I always dreamed of having when I was a kid, I have no current plans of leaving (are you just hoping we'll have an opening soon? :-p) We would like to do similar Ask Me Anything threads in the future, although the specifics of the process we're still ironing out.

Thanks for answering, sorry for the paragraphs and have a nice day!
We are still growing rapidly and have lots of job opportunities. To see our most current openings, you should always check the Riot Games website (riotgames.com). At the moment, I think our entry-level Creative team is full up, but feel free to keep an eye out on our website!

Only time will tell. (Fun fact: I used to end history papers with that line, usually about things like "who will win World War 1?" History teachers loved me. >.>)

Is the corruption sentient like a human? Is it sentient but different than a human (i.e. feels emotions differently, thinks absolutely evil things, etc.)? I realize these questions are probably not going to be answered, but I can try, right?
I think in moments, for instance when he looks at his necklace, he is showing you there is something left of the original man. I think the corruption doesn't really play by the rules of human sentience, but it seems to have some organization. You can always try!

What were Varus' values before he was corrupted? What are they now? It seems too simple if the only thing he valued was revenge.
If he were to die...I wonder...

He valued duty, honor, family, his sense of self and purpose. I think he had a very fulfilling life. Now...I don't think he values much of anything. His entire life has been ripped away in a cold and brutal fashion. Even if he weren't corrupted, the only good memories or thoughts he could have would immediately remind him of all he lost. However, as I've mentioned before, he still seems to keep his revenge focused on those who wronged him, instead of becoming a crazed killer.

Thank you for making this thread to answer questions! I like when my curiosity is satisfied and I am sure others like it too. I like reading the lore and story to LoL and I think it is interesting, especially with champions like Varus because of the plain humaness in the story (such as Varus cracking under extreme pressure). I hope these questions are not too much to answer. Thanks again!

Tzee...
Heh, unfortunately I can divulge no info on the details of upcoming champs. Thanks for the questions and for your interest in Varus!

For the League of Legends to be so important in the lore, actual matches on the Fields of Justice in the lore seem pretty rare.
The game matches were actually based on the invasion. Babagahnoosh led the charge on that and several others (myself included) assisted. You can still see details at http://na.leagueoflegends.com/ionianoxus2010. Aaaaand I can't comment about future matches.

Yet all we get is the old JoJ's and the old Judgements that read like bad fan fiction (every piece of dialogue in the JoJ read like it came from the same character). We don't get this issue in game as character responses sound and feel right for their character but out of the game it's just...bad.
We've done a lot of learning here at Riot. Though I think there are some great moments in many of the things we've done throughout Riot's history, I'd be lying if I said we never made mistakes. We always do our best to learn and improve though, we view that as the most important part of development. So...hopefully brighter skies ahead!

Another example (though weaker than Renekton) is Graves jokingly saying 'i've got your darkness' when using smokescreen on Nocturne. These are cool interactions and acknowledgments of other champions in the League and honestly the game should be full of them.
We're always looking for ways to improve the game experience across the board. As for the specifics...I can't comment. v.v

What does Fizz think of Varus? Fresh blood to pull pranks on?
That does seem in line with Fizz's mentality, although I think he would definitely get an immediate impression from Varus that he probably wouldn't get as fun and vibrant a reaction as he might get from others.

Sorry if this has been answered before.

Bro looks pretty fabulous, but I think I'm gonna wait for another skin before I pick him up.
When we were concepting him, we thought that he was too quick and agile a warrior in life to be weighed down by a bunch of armor. It seemed sort of thematically appropriate to give him a single plate over the heart. It also goes well with the...head ornament. Glad you like him!

Counter-question: does dividing questions into subcategories really make them fewer questions? =p

1) If I had to guess, I'd think the Kinkou see Varus as a threat to the balance they constantly work to maintain. That corruption is hard to predict.
1a (arguably 2)) In this instance...I can see why this was a subcategory of 1...see above.
1b) Though they are, by occupation, a stoic folk. I like to think they have friendly disagreements about specifics. Generally speaking though, Shen is the one in charge of determining what must be done.
1c) That unit is a flippin' ninja, you're lucky if you see him at all.

2c: Is the Void Staff from the Void? o_O
2) Not to my knowledge.
2a) We are an available resource for naming items, although Designers often name them.
2b) Right now, the Ionian Boots of Lucidity are the only ones with explained lore. They were added when Ionia won its match against Noxus (see Story Match above).
2c) This seems suspiciously like an attempt to get me to talk about the Void here...

His arrows do seem to be a manifestation of the corruption's energy. Ashe comes prepared for some serious shooting, but who knows, maybe she could run out some day. Varus: Vengeful, dark, brooding, determined.

He was previously an Ionian archer and he was very good at it. As I mentioned earlier, I think he probably felt incomplete without a bow in his hand.

The answers you gave to my questions just made it seem like Varus and reckless and unruly. And that doesn't seem like the person I would give the job of guarding an ancient evil too.

Was it a poor choice for Varus to be selected for his previous occupation. He should of understood the consequences of his actions. What it meant he had to sacrifice, but instead he chose to be selfish rather than selfless.

Alrighty! As it seems that I've gotten to the end here, I'm going to sign off. Thanks everyone for all your questions and your interest in Varus. I hope you got more insight into the character and I'm sorry for the many questions I couldn't answer. I'm off to my lore cave to work on material which will hopefully lead to a bunch of new, enthusiastic questions!

Oops, okay one more.

My answers were referring to who Varus is now. The present Varus is very different than the man they selected to guard the temple. This Varus has turned his back on the principled man originally chosen for this duty. He is now walking a path guided only by his desire for revenge.

You could say it was a poor choice for him to have been chosen, but he did defend the temple, and he did stop Noxus from reaching it. For all we can say, he may have at least kept the corruption localized, where it might have spread unchecked otherwise.
