I prefer him pure tank but that is me

i personally like him as an almost pure tank, though I do pick up an early sheen which generally gives me all the damage i need for a while.


after that I go for frozen heart and either odins or FoN.

after that I will get tankier if needed, but if not I will finish triforce, then go tankier.

The best way to build Alistar is to go high health + defensive AP with sunfire. Get Pros Ring + boots then either Merc or Lucidity. You want merc for HARD CC, snares and stuns, everything else doesn't do much. After that I would rush a Sunfire. Why? First you're not lacking in damage due to the Pros Ring and then 40 damage aura, second your becoming very tanky, you'll usually end up being the last one to die in fights meaning that 40 damage aura will do so **** much damage since everyone ignores you. If they focus you, that health will make all the difference, since your ult will work just that much better, as opposed to all the armor you got.

Max CDR and Sheen are your goals for abilities and damage. Frozen Heart and Sheen are must have items... The rest of your build should depend on your opponents.
Rushing a triforce and then get frozen heart on dominion is probably worth trying.

Its interesting to see that you can build Alistar so many different ways. I tried him out as tanky and it worked very well. Not high on kills but very low deaths and a TON of assist. I am liking this form more and more but i will definitely try the AD form also. Thanks for all the responses too!

Yeah, Ive seen several different Alistar builds do quite well, from tanky to the Triforce with just a bit of defense, to full out Carry. With his Ult popped he is WAYYY harder to kill than any other carry while still canceling out any CC and delivering the sweet deeps.

I never really understood Sheen on Alistar. He has such high cooldowns to take advantage of that proc. Yes, he does have high base AD, but it's not that much of a difference; He's at 120 at level 18 and the average champion is at 109. Several other tanks have a similar AD (A couple even higher) but Sheen is not built on them outside of Blitz (Who has a spammable skill that applies Sheen)

my current build on ali in dom:

merc's
zeke's herald
frozen heart
trinity force
aegis
atma's impaler/force of nature/wit's end depending on enemy team

another path you can try is to replace the last item with randuin's and go tanky-ad with more on the tank
if you want to roam a lot (i.e. constantly ganking bot or top or even camping the jungle), try boots of mobility and replace aegis with something because you won't be near your team a lot.

masteries: 9/21, taking cdr and mpen in offense, taking the summoner's spell masteries as appropriate.

I personally love roaming ali, getting ****loads of assists with a simple WQ or QW here and there. it puts you low on points, but you're a very valuable asset to the team by keeping them fed and full and helping everyone when needed or not.

You said it. It's cause of his high base AD. But you're right that his cooldowns are horrible so I don't think it's a good idea to rush it (unless you're rushing Triforce in which case it's probably the best part to get first). Once he gets max CDR it's not a problem to cycle his abilities to make use of the procs.

Also, I'm not sure how well known it is but he can get a free autoattack in when he headbutts someone. That's really nice damage if you have sheen/triforce (and almost impossible to retaliate, so it makes good harass).

Go Tanky MAx W+E or E+W and heal minions at bot, be sure to kill enemy mage minions, you should have a big stack soon enough to overwhelm bot. you could also use Pulverize to AoE kill amge minions but pulverize is better when you have it off cooldown annd someone comes to gank, either ally or enemy.
