Is the system capable of detecting people that AFK in the fountain, but don't stop giving input? I mean, the AFK detector works if you don't move your Champion for so much time (from what I've gathered). But, there are plenty of people who decide to AFK for some reason, and they sit in the fountain moving their Champion every 30 seconds or so to avoid the AFK detection. Is this something that can be detected currently?

If not, can it be in the future?

Obviously, if the system now detects "This player hasn't moved from this small area in X minutes", then these players will start doing laps around the base. They're always going to avoid the system. But, it would at least catch the dumber griefers who aren't smart enough to figure out the new system. Clearly, the method I just proposed is flawed, because sometimes players DO stay in a small area for a length of time. It's just an example.

Related to this: in the past, when I've encountered one of these players who sits in the fountain dancing or whatnot, I've always reported them for Leaving/AFK. However, I've recently begun to question whether or not that was the smart thing to do. I believe someone mentioned one time that the Leaving/AFK report doesn't go to the Tribunal. Rather, it helps the Leaverbuster catch people. But, if these people are avoiding the detector, then the report is useless, correct? Generally, these players don't get a Leave for the game or anything like that.

If that's the case, then I'm better off reporting these guys for something else and writing their actual offense in the text field for a Tribunal voter to see. Otherwise, there's no chance of punishment. Am I right in saying this?

Edit: I'll answer your OP questions soon. It's been a little while since I've done the Tribunal. I'll probably tackle some cases today or tomorrow and give my input.
Unfortunately LeaverBuster is another one of those systems that I cannot reveal specific numbers, details or specs about. However, the LeaverBuster is one of our most robust systems and it actually does a pretty good job identifying AFK and Leavers. If you notice a leaver or AFK, I'd still report them using that report.

Yeah but some people whom you call toxic are prob just not in a good mood. I mean like, if they lose 10 games in a row, and let's say the person was solo top. He gets 5 kills from the enemy top and never dies, and also gets tower. He proceeds to help mid lane. He gets their and starts ganking their ap carry. You pop your gap closer and **** on him and next thing you know an ally has been slain. Then you see your health dropping as well. You press tab and see that their annie is 14/1. This is what generally pisses off people the most. They are losing time and elo because of other players. Maybe one or twice, there's nothing to be mad about since we all have bad games, but if it's ten in a row, it's a different story. Some people get dragged down to elo hell by trolls and just plain horrible players even if they deserve to be in an elo 300 higher than what he is in.

1) Why do you participate in the Tribunal?

I think everyone loves a trainwreck, whether they like to admit it or not, reading a tribunal case is a chance to watch one and then deliver justice to whoever caused it. It's equally satisfying to pardon those that are clearly wrongfully accused or more victims than anything else.

2) What is your most requested feature in the Tribunal?

Punish Other/Praise Other
Often in tribunal cases, I will see other people in the chat log who are equally or even more abusive than the reported player. I'd like to be able to click on their name to judge any tribunal cases they have active. Additionally, I often see a LOT of players who are trying to calm a situation down or trying to counteract a troll by offering advice and encouragement to the abused. I REALLY want to be able to give these summoner's a kudos.

3) How would you make the Tribunal more effective?

We need to be able to give praise to those who stand out as remarkable players. Those people who take the time to suggest items, who buy wards consistently, and are just a huge asset to their team through their positive attitude and ability to work with others, whether or not their teammates are good or bad.

4) What is the Tribunal’s greatest weakness?

It focuses entirely on negative reinforcement, when studies consistently show that positive reinforcement generates better results. Negative reinforcement has the caveat of teaching people not to get caught doing undesired behavior, while positive reinforcement actually stimulates the desired behavior.

5) Would you still vote in the Tribunal if there were no IP rewards?

Yes, even though its negative reinforcement, I still believe in justice.

6) What kind of rewards would you prefer from using the Tribunal?

Justice and virtue are their own rewards, to be honest. That said, I would be satisfied if we could praise the just and the virtuous.

Current Question of the Week [5/21/2012]:

1) If you could add one feature into the game that addresses player behavior, what would it be?

I'm probably beating a dead horse at this point, but it's really important to me. Praise/Commend/Positive Reinforcement, whatever you want to call it. We need to reward those awesome players. Make them into examples, make them into rolemodels. Make others envious of their status, so that their behavior gets emmulated. Track players with high amounts of commendations and feature their games in the spectator window. There are so many benefits to this. Other players who desire that level of attention can earn it without necessarily being super-pro, and they do it by being positive members of the community. It creates a ripple-effect where the rewards earned through good behavior become highly desired and people start getting on board. Only the most toxic players would refuse, and would be easily identified at this stage. This is an ideal scenario, granted, but one that isn't completely outside of reality.

Spam punishing most likely. Easiest way to fix it, in my opinion, would be to put fake reports in there that are OBVIOUS "Pardon" cases and if someone clicks punish on them, take a closer look at their tribunal history and chances are you'll find a spam punisher and you can ban them from the tribunal.
We talked about this recently... how do you know there are not "catch" cases in the Tribunal already? I am a scientist who likes to experiment, afterall... 8)

I honestly think there would be more active participation in the tribunal if it were usable via the league of legends client.

@Ginga

I agree in some part with you. Even tought sometimes it's possible to win 4x5 games, sometimes someone just not connect from the start, or ragequit after first blood.
Such behavior creates a bad taste in the mouth of those who remain. And that either makes them try the hardest and teamwork better (often winning the game) or raging and giving up more easilly (giving up the game and stressing others).

Some things I think would make it better, using also a suggestion made by some posts earlier:

-Reduces time needed to surrender
-Allows surrender in the initial 5min of the game if someone leaves
-Increase reward if players stay untill Nexus explodes from damage, rewarding those who stay until the end. After all, if the enemies reached there, they deserve to have the joy of destroying it. Why surrender if you could wait just 5~10s more? I am all up for rewarding those who wait.

How would you make the Tribunal more effective?

The ability to write at least a sentence on why did you think it deserved to be pardoned or punished... so that other people that see the case also read that

1) Why do you participate in the Tribunal?
To filter out the bads from the goods.

2) What is your most requested feature in the Tribunal?
I'm not sure if this would relate to the Tribunal but I'd like to commend good players for not being ****s. It would be cool if I can queue with the players that I commended more often.

3) How would you make the Tribunal more effective?
Displaying kills/deaths, pregame, and postgame chats would be a start.

4) What is the Tribunal’s greatest weakness?
It would be cool if there was a replay system where we could personally watch and judge accurately. Just saying.

5) Would you still vote in the Tribunal if there were no IP rewards?
There wouldn't be an increase in voting in the Tribunal. That is all I can say.

6) What kind of rewards would you prefer from using the Tribunal?
Being able to play with non-toxic players more often. Those small amounts of IP mean nothing to me.
1) If you could add one feature into the game that addresses player behavior, what would it be?
Replays

I have something that pertains to peoples attitudes and such that also deals with leavers. So when someone leaves your game, whether it be a DC ( which you guys really need to work on, it's really pissing me off how I don't get a loss forgiven or my elo back when someone leaves and it's an unwinnable 4 v 5 ) or an actual rage quit, it pisses everyone off on that persons team. So unless that player takes a break to forget about the free elo he just gave, he's gonna be in a salty mood. The next game he goes might set him off, and he's play sloppy, ragin and gonna give up. And this literally might've happened only because of that DC/leave. So all in all, you guys need a way to give players that have to face a 4 v 5 a loss forgiven, their elo back or something to help them get a fair chance in that game. Because in the end, that single thing can destroy a bunch of players moods and gameplay, and might be the thing that gets them banned/suspended/reported.

Please answer this too, I just had a DC that led to a loss and I'm mad. Thankfully I'm taking a break but this happens multiple times a day in my games and its just making me wanna quit because I have to climb back up by playing well, I have to do everything I can to get my elo back, I have to try and make everyone play nice again, I have to refrain from raging. You see how many I's are in this, but no " Riot helps me " ? Yeah...
