Hello Summoners!
im thorrbo. I am but a lowly 1500~ player. I stream video games over at www.imthorrbo.com where i do my best to earn a little bit of money to help my father out. I play mostly League of Legends, but I've been known to branch off into other games for hours at a time as well. (Zeldas, Final Fantasies, Minesweeper.)
I go out of my way to talk to everyone I can in IRC (even the trolls!) I add everyone who adds me, even though my friends list is almost full because of it. I do my best to explain what I'm doing, why I made that stupid mistake, why I build what I build, etc.
This weekend I'll be holding another marathon like I did at the beginning of the month. I'm going to stream for 24 hours straight, most of it being League of Legends, and do my best to raise funds for my father.
This is really like a full-time job for me. I have no other source of income aside from donations, I don't even run ads. I'm epileptic, and I have 7-8 seizures a month. I can't hold a steady work schedule like that, because if I have a seizure on Sunday, I can't work Monday. because of this, it's incredibly difficult for me to find a job, let alone one within walking distance.
My dad's 52 years old, and he's been on permanent disability for 7 years now because he ruptured two lower discs in his back while working. Two years ago, he was diagnosed with cancer in his leg. When they operated and cut away part of the tumour, there was still an open hole in his leg when they did radiation.
As far as we or any other dermatologist can tell, that's where the staph infection originated, and that's the urgent health issue that we're struggling with right now.
My father's staph infection is very much like MRSA. It even tested positive for MRSA, but doctors claim it isn't MRSA. It's a flesh-rotting infection that was coursing through out his entire body at one point. His hands were bloody and pus-covered. He had to wear gloves to eat, drink, or pet our cat.
The infections calmed down and has been (mostly) isolated to his original wound in the back of his leg. This is good, but he's still in immense pain. He can't sit or stand for more than half an hour at a time really, just long enough for him to roll his own cigarettes. I change his bandages once a day, and even without touching his wound he's still in incredible pain.
My father earns $1,400 a month from his long-term disability. $1,200 of that $1,400 goes to my Aunt, who we live with. It pays for this houses mortgage and bankruptcy fees. If we don't pay this, since they can't afford it themselves, they lose the house. So this is a necessary evil.
That leaves us with $200 a month.
My fathers pain medication (Morphine) alone is $400 a month. This is not including his monthly hospital visits to remove the celulitis infection he had (that we're still covering and way behind,) his dermatologist visits, his pain specialist visits, his physical therapist visits, and his -other- medications (Gabapentin comes to mind, I'm not sure what else is taking off the top of my head.)
We're also struggling to eat, but we're still alive and that's the important thing obviously.
So I've been asking for donations from my viewers since about the beginning of april. Without the marginal money we've earned since then, I honestly don't know where my father and I would be living or what his condition would be in. Even with the morphine the pain he deals with is still drastic, so I'm not sure how well he'd be coping either.
The other night, to further entice donations, I decided to hold a raffle. I'm going to hold a raffle every week from now on, but this particular one ends at the end of my marathon. For every $5 donated, the donor gets a ticket. At the end, I'll /random every ticket number, and the winner gets an autographed mousepad (or something.) Just something tiny to give a little bit back to generous viewers.
Depending on entires, I suppose I can do multiple prizes - I don't see why not. Nothing's set in stone here.
What this all boils down to really is that if a handful of viewers donate a handful of dollars, my father will be living much more comfortably, and I hate seeing that man in pain.

tl;dr - 24 hour league stream this weekend, raising money for a good (subject to interpretation) cause, also raffles.
