Why ranged? try doing melee vs a good ranged who doesnt stand there when the melee closes the gap. gl

Because if you're a melee carry your only role in the late game is exposing your backside to the enemy carry. Who will be ranged.

The AD doesn't need to be ranged, but the ranged AD carries always outclass the melee AD carries unless they have a decent support.

To be honest I favor ranged AD carries severely. HOWEVER I have gone bot with Fiora successfully. It can be done but you have to be very very careful and simply outclass the other team.

I will admit that I got super lucky and my support was an aggressive Alistar. So we were able to turn it into a kill lane. I still would not recommend going bot with a melee carry.

The only reason it worked with Fiora was because I had a double dash. I used it on a minion to get within range then I used it on the carry. That way I got close to quick for them to lay on the damage.

I forgot to mention that if you were to carry with someone like Kog or Vayne you could go glass cannon. I have games with Kog where I attack twice a second and crit consistently for 1k.

If you carry with a melee you can go glass cannon due to the fact that you are going to be in the middle of the fight. Ergo you need tanky items which take away from your damage potential, so you can't crit for 1k. You might have better sustainability, but you don't have the damage output that a RANGED ad carry does.

While everybody here is making valid points as to why a melee ADC may not be so viable, I still think that we might simply be missing something in the thought process that could turn out to make Melee ADC a consistently viable pick. I play a lot of support, and I've been looking for an excuse to play some more agressive support game recently, especially since I normally end up with chanpions who will do just as well or better if I just sustain them with 'raka or sona.
Add Tristamwolf, I ought to be online for a bit later tonight and tomorrow for a few games. Still working toward lvl30, but I will support on your poppy adc games.

Tristam I have actually had you play support for me before. Just thought I would throw that out there.

And if someone would like to support for me later tonight CST I will be willing to attempt the melee carry and support some.

Basically, because crit damage scales so well. With an IE, two Phantom Dancers, two Bloodthirsters, and a Last Whisper, you have essentially the highest possible DPS in the game, and you can keep it up for as long as you are a) alive, and b) in range.

Ranged champions can deal damage while staying out of danger, which means they can stay alive longer, and because they're ranged, it's easier for them to stay in range. Melee carries have to swap out some of those max-damage items for lesser-damage items, and they're still not as safe as ranged carries.
