Title? I bought Varus and find his kit fun but his lack of survivability/mobility makes him not a good pick in low level normals where no one protects the squishies. Heck half the time there's no tank. I also played TF in the past, but hated how he would fall off lategame, and he does fall off lategame, since his main strength at that point is to split push and force 4v5's, which is really hard to organize with a team full of low level randoms. By hard I mean impossible.

Orianna can shield/kite all day.

mostly ezreal for adc, jungle would probably be lee, Rumble has some pretty good skill shots for top, mid would probably be oriana or even ezreal again, support would be janna. to name just a few..

Kennen. His E is a beautiful escape, and has a neat caveat in that it's also your best initiator for laning, so you need good awareness.

Morg/Lux are pretty good skillshot based survivable peoples. Both have shields of some kind, Lux has a slow, both have CC Qs. Lux shield is OP if you use it right, and Morg's passive lets you heal with her already beefy base hp
