Heimerdinger solo top or mid?

So I've been playing HD a lot lately and I've been asked to go top a couple times but I always end up going mid. Is top lane HD just as good as mid lane HD?

As Heimer, you are super vulnerable and really need the short length of mid lane to keep you alive. Top lane is too long for you to really be able to escape from ganks.

Basically what IGot said. You have the best chance of success with Heimerdinger going mid.
