Has any red ever explained what the hell happens?

The only person that can kill Irelia is Irelia herself, obviously.

She just gets tired of being hit by 5 people and decides to take a minute break.

This is my assumption but its probably that after sustaining so much damage in combat she is unable to control her blades anymore and the lower hp she is the more force she's putting into keeping her blades in line. Then like a high tension wire snapping, they come back full force when she is at her weakest.
