Just had an idea, would there be able to be in-game markers of the point at which someone pings, not just on the mini-map. This might help to make it easier to determine the specific location that someone pings, helpful for spotting wards or setting up ganks.

Agreed. And maybe have an effect on the player portrait/circle that pinged, so you can tell who is the one calling out.
