What is wrong with Sion?

The problem with Sion is that he gets kited really hard. AD Sion can't get close if the enemy team peels properly, and AP Sion has trouble if he doesn't have his combo up, plus his shield - which is a lot of the damage - can be removed.

I like to play him in the jungle because his stun makes for some really strong ganks, but you really need some good movespeed.
