Because they've been doing it to others for months, they get banned, they come here claiming they are not being a jerk, and when proved it they go straight back into being a jerk. So we're cutting out the step of proving they're a jerk and deserve to be treated as a jerk without really changing any of the outcome.

"I don't deserve my permaban, 1 week, 2 week ban" people just DO NOT GET IT. We've tried, and failed many times. Personally I feel as though I alone have broken the 1k mark in my lifetime of games of finding, trying to help people stop being jerks, and ended up with the exact same reactions from the people the second I'm not there.

I tried hunting them down in UO, it didn't stop them, so I started filling their houses with stacks of dragons in their recall point. They just moved and went right back to being jerks.
I tried it in everquest. Less success there.
I did it in world of warcraft. Minor success there.
I tried it here, it only made those people more jerk than all of the past combined.

Only here do the jerks have the audacity to claim they are not jerks and demand to be treated fairly after being punished for BEING a jerk. They're NOT asking what they did wrong, but they're demanding that we say they did nothing wrong. They'll avoid confirming anything they said deserves it, but will happily put all the blame on the other people in any format they can. They'll make MORE accounts to continue to be jerks just because they can. All the while they deny they are a jerk.

So what it all boils down to is if they want us to start treating them as normal people they just have to do only one simple thing. Stop being jerks.

Actually, I agree with this.

I tend to come into threads at least with an open mind and attitude, and any time someone posts a report card I look it over objectively and post why I thought the decision was reached.

However: After that, if the poster becomes abusive and sarcastic, and starts to ridicule the people posting to give him a fair shake of his card, I don't think he deserves much sympathy.

This.
Until the OP of the thread acts like a jerk on the forum we should treat him/her with respect. If they start raging here then they are fair game.

I would say that the one major exception to this would be the OP in a thread. Even if the person comes out swinging right away (as they often do), it would be best to still approach it in a calm manner. Similar to how sometimes you can get would-be ragers in-game to stop raging by just keeping cool.

In general, it would also be best to just abandon the thread before it reaches the point of pointless arguing from both sides.

Depends on the tone I feel. Or at least how known the OP is. If it is one of the more well known trolls from this forum(I.E. Trollbunalist, others whose names aren't as memorable, ect.) then don't hold back. People we haven't seen before should get a chance or two yeah.

Yes, I agree almost 100% with :

"Until the OP of the thread acts like a jerk on the forum we should treat him/her with respect. If they start raging here then they are fair game."

What I want is for every OP to at least be given the benefit of the doubt. Even if they are angry about their ban, we should give them the benefit of the doubt.

After that, just ignore them! Just like in a game! You wouldnt insult ragers in a game, why do it on the forums?
