Twitch's story:

It is popular practice for the Farmers of Jugos to have their newborns blessed by the passing gypsy shamans that travel from town to town. When Annie was brought to be blessed, the gypsy shaman cried out in agony, warning the parents that Annie was possessed by a great evil and should be destroyed. Annie's parents forced the gypsy shaman to bless the child anyway. As a last gesture, the gypsy gave Annie three enchanted bear wards, hoping they would stave away the evil. They helped for awhile.

I speculate some Annie story concept leftovers. :/
