The only real difference is that in order to go from silver to gold you have to win a best of 5 series in order to advance, which is again based on the same people you have been grouped with and will still contain trolls and bad players to screw you over.
People, if you are here asking question about this because you think this is going to help you get more "ELO" or move to a higher tier faster, this is not the fix you are looking for. This update is only putting a shiny new package on the old ladder. The same flawed matchmaking system that is actually helping to keep those few players who are actually better than their ELO or TIER says they are, is not changing. In fact, if anything this is going to make your solo queue woes even worse because once you have gone through the horror of attaining 100 League Points, you now have to win 2 out of the next 3, or 3 out of the next 5 in order to even advance up at all. They trivialize this by making it seem like a badass thing...........that it really isn't because if you happen to get trolls or bads the next 2-3 games, then you get knocked back down and have to start the whole process over again, man that sounds exhilarating.
Now i know it sounds like i'm belittling all the work that Riot is putting into this and in a way i am, but there is no other way to say it. From the responses i've seen, no one seemed to have a problem on the old ladder really, the big issue is the matchmaking system, which isn't getting addressed, but i know a lot of you are thinking that this is that fix and its not.

There is another difference. You will have no way to determine the level of players you are queued with, since you wont be able to see the real stat thatd ertemine the matchmaking.
You will just see a silver, gold, deiamond and a number that really doesnt determine anything, they are just visuals.
So we lose information (the number that determines the matchmaking) and we get a new visual that doesnt mean anything really.
They can implement this league system and all the visuals they want, but i will NEVER support them taking information away from us.
If they show our elo number, then i have no quarries on the change, but since the proposal is to hide our matchmaking number, i am against this change.
