amumu is a slow to start jungler, so he's not really going to give your lanes an early advantage.

If you're relying on people to carry early rather than waiting for the teamfights it'd be better to go with someone else.

Mummy isn't that hard to play. If you can land skillshots, or at least manage to flash into the enemy team and press R, I'd pick him every time. Just remember to make sure your team is in range of you when you do this.

Things to worry about are heavy junglers with good counter jungle potential. Even then it's worth it imo. His skillset is very good in S3.

You can counter jungle amumu really hard and create a really under leveled, under farmed mummy.

Im a silver jungler, i NEVER ban amumu.

My team blames me, i pick xin zhao/ lee sin and pwn dat crazy mummy.

I am a total noob and just started playing Amumu in his free week (bought him after)
He's not that hard to play, and his ult can completely turn the tide in a team fight. So I would say, assuming you are able to play him, I would go for it for sure. He doesn't have awesome early ganks, but his post 6 ganks are top notch and he only gets more powerful as the game progresses. Once you are nice and tanky, sunfire cape + W combined with a well-timed ult is devastating.

Because he's not overpowered - at all.
