I 100% endorse this idea! My suggestion was to inculde them above or below to your main skill bar so when your looking down to see what skills are avilable you can immediately see that you have them to use.

Really active items ARE skills so they should be shown next to skills. Looking to the inventory for skills is quite counter intuitive.
