Match History Beta Now Live

In a game that emphasizes strategy and competition as much as League of Legends, information can be incredibly powerful. We've been itching to provide more data on how you play the game, and we’re ready to introduce the evolution of your match history. The beta is now live!

Our goal is to deliver robust, intricate details about your previous matches in an accessible, intuitive interface that allows you to share game histories with your friends. We’re making more of your games visible, not just your last 10. We’re expanding the end-of-game information, using graphs and heat maps to display dragon kills, gold-per-minute, death locations and more. And now you can share links to your match history across all of your favorite social channels.

Related to sharing, there is one aspect of the new match history we want to dive into deeper. We believe ranked play is the highest sphere of competition. Players opt in to ranked play to measure their skill in an amped-up competitive environment, and the focus is much more on winning. In order to maintain that legitimacy, we believe that ranked game stats should be open knowledge, so unlike match histories for normal queue games, ranked games will be publically available.

  • What exactly is my match history?

    Your online match history is a record of past games you’ve played, expanded and organized with graphs, charts, heat maps and more to help you tell the story of your most epic games. The online version includes games stretching back to May 1, 2014.

  • What does “beta” mean?

    Admittedly, this question probably isn’t going to be “frequently” asked, but it’s worth clarifying anyways! During this transition, we’re currently storing each game of League of Legends in two locations: one in the “old” data storage, and one in the “new” data storage.

    The old match history (the one with just 10 games and limited data) is built off of the old data storage. This is also what the Riot API builds off for 3rd party sites.

    The new match history is built off of a new storage, and while we’re very confident that you’ll have an awesome experience, there is still the potential for bugs. These bugs can cause things like data corruption, loss of data, incorrect data, or other problems. We’ve tested the new match history a whole bunch internally, but we can’t 100% guarantee that there won’t be pesky problems a whole case of Raid couldn’t kill.

    So to answer the question: “beta” means that we might have bugs, and in the worst cases, we could lose games or other data. “Beta” also means we’ll be tweaking what data is available on the page, and adding new graphs and visualizations as we go. This is an evolving experience, not the final experience.

  • What graphs are available?

    We’ll have five graphs available when we debut the new match history:

    • Gold Advantage - the difference in cumulative gold between the two teams over the course of the game
    • Team Gold - the cumulative gold value for each team over the course of the game
    • Individual Gold - the cumulative gold for each individual champion over the course of the game
    • Champion Kills - the kill locations for each character in the game
    • Building Destroyed - the final building states at the end of the game
  • How many games can I see (I know it’s more than 10…)?

    You should be able to see nearly all games since May 1st. Team Builder games and games for recently transferred players may not have been collected prior to patch 4.8.

  • How long will games be saved?

    We have no plans to delete data, though we likely can’t hold onto every game indefinitely. Our current thoughts are that we’ll hold onto a game for a full year. This could change in the future.

  • So ranked games are public, what about normal games?

    We strive for normal queues to balance fun and winning. League is a competitive game, but players enter normal queues to have a good game with friends or try out new champions and playstyles without the pressure of ranked. While you’ll be able to see the end-of-game info from normal games even if you aren’t friends with those players, player information will be hidden. For example, if you aren’t friends with a player that appears in your normal queue match history, you’ll see the name of the champion they were playing, rather than their summoner name.

  • When will I see a champion name or summoner name in a game?

    The default assumption is that we show the champion name. The summoner name is visible instead if any of the following conditions are met:

    • It’s a ranked game
    • You are the summoner
    • You are friends with the summoner
    • The summoner shared their game with you. In technical terms, this means that the summoner’s numerical identifier was appended onto the URL.
  • What determines visible games in another summoner’s match history list?
    • All ranked games for the current season are visible
    • Normal games will be visible if you are friends with the summoner
    • Custom games are only visible to yourself
  • How do I report bugs or give feedback?
