The Creator Spotlight is a new series that introduces you to a creator in the League of Legends community. If you’re looking for more League in your life, follow these amazing individuals.

CaptainMonk is a Diamond Jungle main whose gameplay analysis and play commentary is informative and engaging - you’ll definitely learn a thing or two with his all-game narration and discussion. Let’s meet CaptainMonk.

Who are you? What got you into creating content?

My name is Adam or CaptainMonk as I go by online.

I began being very interested in video games at a young age playing mostly Nintendo games such as Pokémon and Smash Bros. As I became a teenager, I started playing Call of Duty games a lot and was inspired to follow in the steps of popular CoD YouTubers.

I spent over a year grinding at my first channel featuring my CoD gameplay with commentary. I posted over 300 videos throughout that time, netting a few thousand subscribers. Though it was nothing groundbreaking, I learned what I needed to in order to be sure creating videos was something I would enjoy doing for the rest of my life.

Toward the end of my first channel grind, I began playing League of Legends casually with friends. They encouraged me to make videos of League instead of CoD since League was becoming a better and more popular game all the time and the CoD series games were doing the opposite.

I was reasonably hesitant back then - I wasn't even ranked yet. But I didn't let that stop me from taking the leap of faith creating League of Legends videos. I showed the basics of playing any champion in League, and guided viewers with my live commentary toward expanding their overall game sense and strategies to win.

I have been more or less doing the same thing ever since with my channel, aiming toward gradual improvement at both playing League and producing content.

Where are you from? What's it like there?

I am a Canadian from Vancouver, Canada.

What got you into League of Legends?

A few friends of mine recommended it to me as an up and coming game I should get into playing. I trusted their recommendation and I was not disappointed! I began playing in Summer 2012 very occasionally/casually, but by Spring 2013, binge-playing League of Legends had become an enjoyable lifestyle.

What League-related project are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of my YouTube channel featuring League of Legends content where I have successfully created a video showing every single champion..

Who is your favorite champion and why?

Wukong - I've always thought monkeys were pretty cool.

Who inspires you? Put some links, share some love.

Anklespankin. Before I began making League of Legends videos, I watched Anklespankin to learn the champions I wanted to play. When I started making my own League videos, I designed them similarly to the style of Anklespankin's videos because I knew he had a winning formula. He found my videos after I had only made a few and we quickly became friends through our shared interested in making content. He helped build my channel and I have him to thank for everything I ever achieved creating League videos as it all started with the momentum he generously created for me.

What's something people would be surprised to know about you?

I'm actually a fairly outdoorsy person. I do spend a lot of my time inside playing games, but I actually grew up skiing, mountain biking, swimming, weight lifting and playing different team sports. I continue to enjoy these activities in my free time.

Thanks for reading. Peace out!
